Introduction

This is my first post to the blog. The plan for this blog is pretty simple. I am just sharing information about tax issues that I think are interesting, useful, that give reason for caution, etc. This blog will go out mostly to my clients and friends with a kind of newsletter feel, but if you are here randomly, I would like to first give you a brief introduction to let you know who I am and why I'm doing this. My name is Paul Jones and I am a lawyer and a CPA. I practice in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have been preparing tax returns and concentrating on tax issues since 1998. Although my professional practice is mostly general in scope there is always one issue that creeps into nearly every transaction that I get involved in. Its taxes! It doesn't matter if I'm putting together a trust or forming an LLC, the tax consequences of the transaction are always an issue. This blog is really just an extension of the issues that come up in my practice or that I hear about in the news. It is for business people and regular everyday people alike--although some posts will be pointed more to the business person than others. Regardless, I hope that they will help inform people that might have similar tax issues, whatever your circumstance. I welcome comments and questions. I hope that everyone who sees this will be more informed having read my posts. (I can't say that you'll enjoy them all, because, after all, I am talking about taxes!)
